Located in the heart of Melaka at 39, Jalan Kee Ann, 東南成茶樓点心Restoran Choo Kim Hup Dim Sum is a timeless gem that has been captivating dim sum lovers for over 50 years. This traditional dim sum restaurant offers a truly authentic taste of old-school Chinese culinary heritage, where every bite transports you back to the nostalgic flavors and atmosphere reminiscent of grandparent’s kitchens.
Stepping through its rustic, timeworn entrance, you immediately feel enveloped by a warm, familial vibe. The simple, vintage layout reflects three generations of cherished history, making the dining experience as much about the ambiance as the food itself. It is here that every dish is a celebration of tradition, crafted with care and authenticity that’s increasingly rare in today’s fast-paced world.
The menu focuses on classic dim sum dishes, with a special emphasis on pork-based delicacies that are masterfully prepared without prawn mixed fillers. Among the highlights, the pork porridge stands out—a delicate balance of soft, tender pork and comforting rice porridge that melts on your tongue. Reviewers repeatedly praise its “古早味” (authentic old-fashioned flavor), describing it as the absolute comfort food that also happens to be very affordable, perfect for a hearty meal without stretching your wallet.
The chee cheong fun here is another triumph—creamy, silky, and served hot with fresh prawns incorporated at the time of cooking, affirming the commitment to freshness and quality. The accompanying chili sauce is flavorful, complementing the dim sum with just the right kick to tantalize your taste buds. Many guests also rave about the crystal vegetable kuey and chui kuey, the latter standing out for its unusual chewy, mochi-like texture that delights the palate with every bite.
Dim sum offerings extend to soft, chewy buns that are freshly made, their texture sticky yet tender, truly evoking that home-cooked essence. Other delicacies like pork leg stewed until it melts in your mouth and the deceptively simple tofu, with its dense and bouncy texture akin to fish ball, reveal a kitchen deeply rooted in tradition and culinary skill. Even regular favorites like fried mee hoon attract faithful patrons eager to savor every available dish.
The dining atmosphere is relaxed, genuinely nostalgic, and unpretentious—visitors often describe it as a journey back in time, recalling childhood memories and the good old days. The restaurant’s charm lies not just in its food but in its unwavering dedication to preserving a heritage style of dining, untouched by modern commercial pressures. The attentive and friendly staff, led by the lady boss, add to the welcoming and homely feeling, even patiently helping patrons with quirky coffee orders.
For those seeking a truly unique dim sum experience in Melaka, 東南成茶樓点心Restoran Choo Kim Hup Dim Sum offers an unparalleled blend of taste, atmosphere, and cultural essence. Very old school dim sum in operation since 50 years ago. Entrance & layout is super rustic. Just enter don’t hesitate especially you are chinese speaking. Overall taste is authentic 古早味。The best dim sum I would say is pork porridge. 3pax for the cost of approx SGD$10/- cheap. Remember you can’t change/feedback its layout, just adapt & blend with their culture ya.

When you step in here you will feel like getting back your dad's childhood moments. Really nostalgic of good old days. Everything seems froze here. With 50 years of history & running by 3 generations. Dim sum only pork with no prawn mix. Can taste handmade compared to nowadays shops. Soft & tender meat texture freshly made. I like dim sum & porridge. Bun too soft & chewy sticky. Except salted egg buns are nice. May try economy fried noodles are warming hot. 经济米粉面有加热过,能吃到古早味道像学校食堂。 Refill tea with boiling hot water on the stove. The shop entrance is a bit inner may easily bypass. Come early close around 11am. The old Ladyboss is friendly. The price is average.

Nostalgic ambient, dim sum helm by the 2nd & 3rd generations. Many of their dim sum have unique awesome flavours. Pork leg stewed till so soft that melt in mouth. Chee cheong fun was so soft & silky. Tofu that looked simple, had surprise texture, is so dense and as if similar to bouncy fish ball. Was there twice and sadly that their fried mee hoon sold out.

Nice old school environment hidden in some lane that I chance upon. The chee cheong fun is made hot upon ordering and fresh prawns are thrown in while making. Not your typical cooked prawns which is the short cut way. The chilli accompany the cheong fun is very flavorful.

3rd generation dim sum place. Nostalgic and more than 50 years. Keep it the way it is as it so rustic. A lot of good dim sum, unlike the normal Canton dim sum. Special mention as below 1. crystal vegetable kuey. It has the crystal skin and inner is the soon kuey filling 2. Chui kuey. This is totally different from the usual ones we have in Singapore. It is chewy almost like mochi n with alkaline powder n with sauce as well, and the kuey is more saity while the cai pok is less salty. Very interesting n recommended a must try. 3. Chee Cheong fun. Mixed the prawn n char Siew n the chilli paste is specially made. Again, different from what other places offer!!! 4. Century egg minced meat porridge. Lots of ingredients as if ingredients are free n definitely taste so home cooked. And only rm3.80. 5. Pork leg. Cut into small bite size and one of the most lightly seasoned ones I had. Suit old man taste for sure!!! Other dim sum all nice also. And I like the local Malaysian tea leaf du shu xiang. Next time I will order the Liu sha bao as the table next to me ordered 2 sets of it. Staff all very eager to serve and came to ask for our orders 3 times before we decide. The 2G owner (old granny 70yr) and 3G owner (grand daughter of founder @!$ slightly plump n I caught her munching on the dim sum of the store :) ) both came to chat with us. Very personal service as they will ask each table if they need more dim sum.. 9 dim sum and 2 different tea and total only rm35!!!? Will definitely return!!! Opens daily 6am to 11am and close on thu n Fri.
